The Celestron Advanced VX (AVX) 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope combines a compact optical design with the advanced capabilities of Celestron’s Advanced VX German equatorial mount. Designed for both astroimagers and visual observers, this system provides substantial aperture in a package that is more portable than comparable reflector or refractor configurations. The 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube offers 84% more light-gathering ability than a 6-inch telescope, providing greater capability for observing celestial objects and capturing detail. Its compact optical design makes it an excellent option for users who want increased aperture without the size and bulk typically associated with larger telescope systems. The Schmidt-Cassegrain optical design also eliminates chromatic aberration, making the telescope well suited to astrophotography as well as visual observation. Combined with the Advanced VX mount, the system provides a versatile platform for astronomers looking to explore both observing and imaging. The Advanced VX mount incorporates Celestron’s advanced technologies, including All-Star Polar Alignment, Celestron PWI telescope control software, and permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC). These features provide convenient tools for alignment, computerized control, and improved tracking for astrophotography. For experienced imagers, the portable Advanced VX system can be transported to dark-sky locations while providing many of the conveniences associated with a larger observatory mount. For those new to astrophotography, it offers a capable platform to get started and continue developing their skills for years to come.

Features

  • 8” (203.2mm) f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain includes StarBright XLT coatings for better light transmission
  • The most compact and portable of Celestron’s German equatorial mounts offers the same rigidity as our larger mounts with minimal flexure and an improved industrial design
  • Holds a maximum instrument capacity of 30 lb
  • Every feature an astroimager wants: PEC, an autoguider port, the ability to image across the meridian, and more
  • Dual saddle plate is compatible with narrow CG-5 dovetails and wider CGE dovetail. Also compatible with Vixen format dovetails longer than 100mm, but not compatible with Losmandy D format plates.
  • Latitude range allows the mount to perform between 7° and 77° latitude
  • Accessories include a 25mm eyepiece, 1.25” star diagonal and 6x30 finderscope
