Celestron CGEM II 1100 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope
The Celestron CGEM II 1100 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope combines an 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube, Celestron’s premium StarBright XLT coated optics, and the redesigned CGEM II computerized equatorial mount to create a powerful platform for both detailed visual observation and long-exposure astrophotography. With its larger optical system, the CGEM II 1100 delivers 89% more light-gathering power than an 8-inch telescope and more than 40% more than a 9.25-inch telescope. This increased light-gathering capability gives the 1100 a substantial advantage when observing celestial targets and makes the telescope particularly well suited to demanding astronomical applications. Despite its larger aperture, the optical tube assembly weighs only 27.5 lbs., allowing the telescope to remain portable enough to be transported to dark-sky locations. This combination of a large 11-inch optical system and manageable optical tube weight makes it possible to take advantage of darker observing environments without requiring the entire telescope system to remain permanently installed.
The CGEM II 1100 is also particularly suited to long-exposure astrophotography. When paired with optional CCD cameras or photographic equipment, the CGEM II provides a solid equatorial platform for imaging. The telescope is also positioned as a scientific research tool, combining its large optical system with Celestron’s StarBright XLT coatings. The redesigned CGEM II computerized equatorial mount is capable of securely carrying Celestron’s higher-end SCT optical tubes up to 11 inches, with a 40 lb payload capacity. Its ability to support substantial equipment makes it suitable for both visual observing and imaging, while its design provides secure, vibration-free support for the optical tube. With a slew speed of up to 5° per second, the computerized mount can rapidly move across the sky and point towards celestial objects contained within its database. This makes navigating between targets considerably more efficient, allowing you to spend more time observing or capturing images. The CGEM II 1100 brings together an 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube, StarBright XLT optics, substantially increased light-gathering capability, 40 lb payload capacity, 5°-per-second slewing, and long-exposure imaging capability in a system that remains portable enough to take to dark skies.
